Arguably one of the most popular young stars in the Philippines, Heart Evangelista (born February 14, 1985) was first discovered by a commercial agent while shopping at the mall with sister Camille. She signed with Star Magic (formerly known as Talent Center) and was paired with John Prats in the show G-Mik. Her relationship with John Prats gained tremendous popularity, and they starred in several movies togetherâ€”Trip, Ang Tanging Ina and My First Romance. They also starred in popular teen-oriented show “Berks.” After which their real and reel life romance fizzled.

Shaina Magdayao

Shaina Magdayao, born November 6, 1989, is the youngest daughter of Enrique and Deanne Magdayao. She has three older sisters (Shiela, Sharon and Sheryl), one of whom is singer-actress Vina Morales (Sharon).

Shaina’s entry into show business began when she was cast, at six years old, in the drama series Lyra, playing the title character. She caught the eye of someone at ABS-CBN and became part of the Star Magic Family at the age of seven. She was included in the cast of the just-revamped AngTV show, Kaybol. She was then brought together, with two other great child actresses of the time Camille Prats and Serena Dalrymple to star in ABS-CBN’s afternoon drama series Marinella, playing the role of Rina.

In 2000, when Shaina was 10 years old, she released a self-titled debut album with Star Records. The carrier single was “Sayaw Sweet Lullabye”. The song’s music video was often played in the afternoons right before Marinella or youth-oriented shows.

Shaina has also played daughter to a very wide-range of celebrity “parents” on the big and small screens. It was a role like this, in 2000 for the Laurice Guillien helmed project Tanging Yaman, that won her a Best Child Actress award from the FAMAS (Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards), and Most Popular Child Actress Award from the 2001 Guillermo Mendoza Awards. Since then, Shaina has slowly but surely been building her career over the years. In 2002, she starred in a light weekend afternoon series, called K2BU, where she met half-Brit Bea Alonzo, who is her best friend. She has appeared in several drama series and sitcoms, and at one point, doing three at the same time (Seasons of Love, Bida si Mister Bida si Misis, Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay), while going to regular school. She started to be home-schooled in late 2004, as her schedule got even more hectic, but will be graduating at the same time as Pop Princess Sarah Geronimo.

In 2005, she was included in the cast of the much underrated primetime drama series Ikaw Ang Lahat Sa Akin, along with Claudine Barretto, Diether Ocampo, her best friend Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz. It was here that she was paired with actor-dancer Rayver Cruz, who she is currently still being paired with.

She is currently still taping for the Chito Rono and Erik Matti’s newest television series, Rounin, set to air in January or February 2007. She is currently starring in the afternoon light drama Star Magic Presents: All About Your Love along with her loveteam, Rayver Cruz and 17 other young stars under Star Magic. She is also a semi-regular at ABS-CBN’s Sunday noontime variety show, ASAP 06. Magdayao is a member of ABS-CBN’s elite circle of homegrown talents properly named Star Magic.

Shaina is a familiar face in advertisements. She started of as a baby model for various baby products. As a child, she was a model for children’s clothing company, Garfield as well as appearing in a slew of television commercials for Magnolia Chocolait, Lemon Squares Products and Goldilocks, among others. She was also one of the youngest models ever for Ben Chan’s clothing company Bench, moving up the ranks from modelling Bench products for children, to her current HerBench endorsements. Bea Alonzo

Bea Alonzo (Real name: Phylbert Angellie Ranollo Fagestrom), born Oct. 17, 1987, had always dreamed of being in show business. Growing up without a father since the age of four, Bea has nonetheless managed to strike it out on her own.

She joined beauty contests at a very young age and she was moderately successful in this endeavor. It was in a small town beauty contest that she was discovered by famed Filipino fashion designer Oscar Peralta who then brought her to the attention of talent manager Archie Ilagan. The latter presented Bea to the head of the ABS-CBN Talent Center Johnny Manahan who inducted her into the Star Circle Batch 10. There she would be given a wide-range of acting lessons which later helped her land a part in the teen-oriented drama/comedy K2BU.

In 2003, at the age of 15, Bea would be cast as 20 year old lawyer Katrina Argos in the TV drama Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay. The role would garner her her first “Best Actress” nomination at the 2003 PMPC Star Awards.

The role of Katrina Argos would also pair Bea with John Lloyd Cruz who played Yuri Orbida in the drama series. John Lloyd would eventually be Bea’s long-time on-screen romantic partner and the Bea Alonzo-John Lloyd Cruz tandem proved to be quite popular that it was featured in three more TV drama series: It Might Be You, Ikaw Ang Lahat Sa Akin and currently Maging Sino Ka Man. The pair would also star in movies such as My First Romace (where Bea Alonzo was named “Best New Movie Actress” at the 2004 PMPC Star Awards), Now That I Have You, Close To You and the recent All About Love.

After All About Love, Bea’s next movie project is a remake of the classic Dolphy movie Pacifica Falapay. The movie co-stars Vhong Navarro and it will be Bea’s first foray into big-screen feature-length comedies.

Although Bea has been paired with John Lloyd Cruz for several years, she claims that there has been no real romantic involvement between them.

She is currently linked to Filipino actor Mico Palanca, younger brother of Bernard Palanca, who is also an actor. The two have confirmed that they are actually dating each other.

Jennylyn Mercado (born May 15, 1987) is the ultimate female survivor in GMA 7’s first season of Starstruck talent search. Since winning Starstruck, Jennylyn became one of GMA’s hottest contract stars.

In the October 14, 2004 episode of TV drama series Magpakailanman of GMA Network, which featured her life story, viewers learned more about Jennylyn’s childhood.

In May 4, 1991, when she was nearly four years old, Jennylyn made headlines as a battered child.

Her assailant was her stepfather. He burned Jennylyn’s young skin with cigarette butts and whacked her back with a flat iron. Her mother, who was then in Dubai working as a domestic helper, immediately came home. Sadly, though, she came not to take care of her daughter but to bail out her cruel partner, who was in detention.

Her mother migrated to London and had her own family. Because of this, Jennylyn’s aunt, Lydia Mercado, legally adopted her.

In June 2004, Jennylyn’s biological father, Noli Pineda, now 50 came home for a holiday. His arrival did not go unnoticed by the press. Reports came out saying that he was asking for money from his now self-sufficient daughter. This, Jennylyn strongly denied. What her father wanted, she said, was for Jennylyn to use his surname.

Still, according to Jen, she and her biological father keep in touch, even if they don’t get to see each other often, since he’s based in Korea.

Because of her experience as an abused child, she is now the Official Spokesperson of the Bata Foundation (Christian Mission Services), a non-government organization that operates with basic funding support from its partner organization Christlicher Missiondienst (CMD) headquartered in Germany, supplementary assistance from two Japanese organizations and a few local groups, with the help of Feed Hungry Inc. and the GMA Artist Center.

Before joining showbizness, Jennylyn was a senior student at the Augustinian Abbey in Las PiÃ±as where she actively took part in school programs.

She became the girlfriend of co-StarStruck survivor Mark Herras but their relationship has now ended. Although the pair may have declared that they have split up, their on-screen team-up bears no signs of breaking down.

Jennylyn was being wooed by numerous men (like actor Jake Cuenca who gave her a dog - Migs - while working with her in the 9th season of Love to Love entitled Miss Match. But all were just rumors.There were also hints that Jennylyn and Mark got back together again but there had also been rumors that she and her former non-showbiz boyfriend, Jigs Cristobal were back together, too. Toni Gonzaga was born in January 21, 1984. She got her first big break as a fan of Piolo Pascual in a softdrink commercial, at the age of 17 years old. Congratulatory messages from Philippine leaders, with President Arroyo leading the pack, poured in for Manny Pacquiao who scored another sensational boxing win on Sunday.

The country's chief executive, who left for Egypt Saturday for a working visit, was ecstatic over the victory of Filipino boxing icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao in Las Vegas, a Malacañang official said Sunday.

Pacquiao claimed the IBO/The Ring Magazine junior welterweight title with a stunning second round knockout of Britain's Ricky Hatton.

The 30-year-old southpaw twice knocked the Englishman to the canvass in the opening round before ending the fight with a stinging left hook two minutes and 59 seconds into the second round.

“President Arroyo is very happy. While we were not able to watch the fight because we are on our working visit, news of Pacquiao’s victory was greeted by the [Philippine] delegation with great jubilation,” Press Secretary Cerge Remonde told radio dzMM.

On Saturday Mrs. Arroyo and her delegation left for Cairo for a working visit to Egypt and scheduled state visit in Syria.

Remonde said Pacuiao’s victory was relayed to the Philippine delegation in Egypt by Quezon 3rd district Rep. Danilo Suarez.

Remonde, who is also acting executive secretary, added that Mrs. Arroyo “is joining the entire nation in thanking God and in jubilation over this spectacular victory of Manny Pacquiao.”

“May his victory inspire all Filipinos to triumph against all odds,” Remonde said. “May his example of continuing to learn and improve be emulated by our people especially the young,” he added in a text message.

Remonde said “The People’s Champ” will be received by the President in Malacañang and given a hero’s welcome when he comes home.

Deputy palace spokesperson Lorelei Fajardo, meantime, said in a text message, that “President Arroyo and the whole nation join the whole world in celebrating the victory of Manny Pacquiao.”

“His courage, dignity and love of God and country exemplifies the Filipino spirit of sportsmanship and his resiliency in pursuing his dreams of bringing honor to our country,” noted Fajardo.

Showcases Pinoy’s excellence

Vice President Noli de Castro also congratulated the Filipino boxing icon.

“Manny exceeded our expectations with his exceptional boxing skills, speed and strength. His victory is the victory of every Filipino. I personally commend Manny Pacquiao for continuing to showcase Filipino's excellence to the world,” he said in a text message.

He added: “He is truly an inspiration to Filipinos who strive in the face of their daily challenges.”

“Living legend”

House Speaker Prospero Nograles on Sunday also praised Philippine boxing sensation Manny Pacquiao.

Nograles, who flew with other congressmen to the US to watch the fight, said Pacquiao's victory silenced Hatton's boisterous British fans who came in droves to watch the fight.

“The British flew here with so much band and noise and songs and cheers, all sound and fury signifying nothing. But after two minutes, they were shocked with the speed and power [of Pacquiao]. Mismatch really. Pacman from Mindanao is now a legend in his time. What else can the world say?" Nograles told reporters through a text message.

Former president Joseph Estrada, for his part, also said that Pacquiao is “truly a living legend.”

“He is truly an inspiration to Filipinos everywhere, showing that through discipline and faith, great things are possible; a living legend who has brought the nation together in this moment of glory for the Filipino people,” Estrada said in a statement.

Several senators also congratulated the world’s pound-for-pound boxing king.

“Manny Pacquiao has given notice to the world of the prowess and fighting spirit of the Filipino. He has single-handedly raised the prestige of the Filipinos as courageous, disciplined and patriotic. Just like our Overseas Filipino Workers, Pacquiao deserved the title of ‘hero,’” said Sen. Loren Legarda in a faxed statement.

“His triumph is shared by the entire Filipino people to whom he had dedicated his record-breaking fight. But it is as much as an individual triumph arising from him indubitable courage, his solid self-discipline and his single-minded determination win,” she added.

Discipline and humility

Another lady senator, Pia Cayetano, noted that “Pacquiao personifies triumph of the human spirit.”

Cayetano added, “As an athlete, I myself am awed by his discipline, respect for his coach, humility even in times of great victory, and love for God and country.”

She noted, “From his humble beginnings as a bakeshop and fish-port worker in General Santos City and as a struggling young boxer who fought on weekends just to buy food for his family, Manny worked his way up to become world champion in six different weight classes, joining the ranks of boxing legends, and with this latest conquest, the pound-for-pound king of his generation.”

Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan said that Manny “showed the world how Filipinos can be the best.”

“Patunay si Manny na kaya nating mga Pilipino na maging pinakamahusay sa mundo,” he said in a statement.

“Muling ipinakita ni Manny kung ano ang tunay na kakayahan ng Pilipino kapag naghanda, nagmatyag, at nagpursigi sa isang layunin,” noted Pangilian.

Gordon, who is also Philippine National Red Cross chairman, in a statement also said, “With his newest victory, Manny is indeed the undisputed champion of all time not only inside the boxing ring but also in the heart of every Filipino.”

Meanwhile, Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) chairman Manny V. Pangilinan echoed what the political leaders said of Pacquiao.

“Manny Pacquiao’s stunning victory over such a formidable opponent has made all Filipinos prouder as a nation,” he said in a statement.

“With his shining example, our faith in God and a lot of hard work, I am hopeful we will finally win our Olympic Gold,” he concluded.President Arroyo was ecstatic over the victory of Filipino boxing icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao in Las Vegas, a Malacañang official said Sunday.

Pacquiao claimed the IBO light-welterweight title with a stunning second round knockout of Britain's Ricky Hatton.

The 30-year-old southpaw twice knocked the Englishman to the canvas in the opening round before ending the fight with a stinging left hook two minutes and 39 seconds into the second round.

“President Arroyo is very happy. While we were not able to watch the fight because we are on our working visit, news of Pacquiao’s victory was greeted by the [Philippine] delegation with great jubilation,” Press Secretary Cerge Remonde told radio dzMM.

On Saturday Mrs. Arroyo and her delegation left for Cairo for a working visit to Egypt and scheduled state visit in Syria.

Remonde said Pacman’s victory was relayed to the Philippine delegation by Quezon Rep. Danilo Suarez.

Remonde, who is a concurrent acting executive secretary, added that Mrs. Arroyo “is joining the entire nation in thanking God and in jubilation over this spectacular victory of Manny Pacquiao.”

“May his victory inspire all Filipinos to triumph against all odds and may his example continue [to] be emulated by our people especially the young,” Remonde said.

Remonde said Pacquiao will be received by the President in Malacañang and given a hero’s welcome when he comes home.

Vice President Noli de Castro also congratulated the Filipino boxing icon.

“Manny exceeded our expectations with his exceptional boxing skills, speed and strength. His victory is the victory of every Filipino. I personally commend Manny Pacquiao for continuing to showcase Filipino's excellence to the world,” he said in a text message.

He added: “He is truly an inspiration to Filipinos who strive in the face of their daily challenges.”

LEAH DIZON MARRIED AND PREGNANT

The husband of American singer Leah Dizon, 22, who had surprisingly announced their marriage on Tuesday night at her concert, has declined to comment, several tabloid media reported on Friday.
The husband’s name is Bun, and he is a 29-year-old Japanese stylist who has worked for celebrities, such as singer BoA, and fashion shows nationwide. Sources close to him say Bun is 170 cm tall, thin, and Johnny Depp-like in appearance, according to media reports. Bun, however, declined to answer any questions from reporters, saying, “I’m not a person who is supposed to appear in the media. I’m sorry.”
At her press conference on Wednesday, Dizon was asked what Bun liked most about her. “Big peach,” she answered, referring to her bottom.

American singer Leah Dizon, 22, on Wednesday afternoon held a press conference in Aoyama to talk about her marriage and pregnancy which she announced at the last concert of her nationwide tour in Shibuya on Tuesday night.

Dizon dropped a bombshell when she told concertgoers that she was four months pregnant and that she had married a Japanese stylist in his 20s. She told 1,000 fans the wedding had been held last Friday at a hotel in Shinjuku. Insiders say the two had a Japanese-style wedding ceremony at the Hilton hotel.

Tuesday’s concert was the last one of a nationwide tour. Dizon said, “I have important news to tell you. I have actually got married.” Then she added: “I’m pregnant, too. My family and I are very happy.” She said she will take a break from showbiz until after her baby is born, but promised fans she will be back.

Dizon told reporters at Wednesday’s press conference that her husband is a 29-year old “smart guy” whom she met in January. She said they had gone to hot springs and ramenrestaurants together. She also showed a photo of herself in a traditional Japanese wedding dress.
Dizon’s agent didn’t allow reporters to ask her questions because “she is tired of being chased by paparazzi for three hours by car last night after the concert,” he said.
