Catherine Zeta Jones, the beautiful welsh actress that has been residing in people’s hearts ever since she shot to fame with The Mask of Zorro (1998) is the living day example of what one can achieve with little talent, hard work and good luck. The actress has worked in many prestigious projects and has the reputation of a charming personality among the inner circles.
Zeta Jones was born on September 25, 1969 in Swansea, a maritime city located on the southern coast of Wales. Her mother, Patricia was an Irish seamstress, and her father, David "Dai" Jones, was a Welsh sweet factory owner. She has two brothers for siblings, one older David A Jones, and one younger, Lyndon. Upon grabbing a fortune in bingo in the 1980s, they moved to St. Andrews Drive in Mayals, an upper class area of Swansea.
She attended the Dumbarton House School in Swansea, but left it in between to pursue her dream of being an actress and joined the Arts Educational Schools in Chiswick for a full-time three year course in musical theatre.
Career in Movies
She has been involved in the nuisances of acting since childhood, what with performing at dance parties and school plays. Her association with stage began with her joining catholic’s congregate troupe when she wasn’t even 10. Soon she made her debut on stage with playing the lead in Annie, a production at Swansea's Grand Theater. More plays followed suit namely Bugsy Malone., Mickey Dolenz‘s The Pyjama Game. And in 1987 Zeta-Jones starred in 42nd Street.
Zeta Jones entered the field of television with H. E. Bates' The Darling Buds of May .After a brief unsuccessful stint as a singer in 1992 (a part in the 1992 album: Jeff Wayne's Musical Version Of Spartacus, featuring the single "For All Time" was. singles "In the Arms of Love," "I Can't Help Myself," and a duet with David Essex, "True Love Ways.") and soon found her bearings there with shows like The Return of the Native (1994) , the mini-series Catherine the Great (1995) and Splitting Heirs (1993).
1996 brought her the evil aviatrix "Sala" in the action film, The Phantom, based on the comic created by Lee Falk. When she worked in the CBS miniseries, Titanic, her performance compelled Steven Spielberg to recommend her name to Martin Campbell, the director of The Mask of Zorro. She was immensely appreciated for her portrayal of Elena, the love interest of Antonio Banderas and estranged daughter of Anthony Hopkins.
The movie became a milestone other career and opened up many gates for her. She lapped it up all by delivering one breakthrough performance after another.2000 saw her working alongside her future husband critically acclaimed Traffic, that earned her first Golden Globe nomination, as Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture.
Chicago (2003) added another feather to her hat as her role of Velma Kelly, glamorous Chicago jazz stage performer who has to do time after killing her sister and her husband. The movie brought her first academy award for best actress in a supporting role.
Her name got associated with more movies like The Terminal, as well as Ocean's Twelve, the sequel to Ocean's Eleven, The Legend of Zorro (2005), the sequel to The Mask of Zorro, the romantic comedy No Reservations (2007), a remake of the German film Mostly Martha and rugby union-related comedy, Coming Out which she produced and starred in herself.
